We are the Masses and Co-makers of History
Y'all ever tired of being sold lies about the American dream?
Bc all that was painted on my immigrants parents faces when they got back home from work was misery
Capitalism draining their wellbeing
Taking advantage of their need to provide for family
How is this land of the free
If our only options are working to the bone or starving?
How can we find dignity
When capitalist vampires are sucking every ounce of our energy
To steal the value we're creating
Our blood sweat and tears are their favorite drink
and they are constantly thirsty
Why do I have to work three jobs
To afford living
Yet the news keeps calling gen z like me lazy
Instead of blaming low pay and lack of affordable housing
Supervisor said he couldn't be flexible with my schedule
So what he's really telling me
Is I have no say in how I get to spend my day
But I shouldn't complain right?
I could be back to minimum wage
When I was told to welcome harassment with a smile
My manager would pat my hat like his good girl
And when he said fetch I asked how fast
His orders were my command
Now I'm in a position that's more cushy
Just petite boujoise things
But I'm still leashed
Given the illusion of free speech
Yet I'm not allowed to scream from the river to the sea
Decolonization has no teeth in this settler colony
Tired of landlords profiting off of private property
When this is Gods green earth
Where everyone should be entitled to housing since birth
Why do these thieves deserve a majority of my salary
when they didn't tell me id have roaches for roommates that aren't splitting rent
Can y'all imagine how different it'd be
If people gave up their get rich quick dreams
And started building community
To take down this capitalist system
That's the root of all this violence and poverty
No more reforming
Just transforming this greedy economy
And remolding culture and ideology
To reclaim what's rightfully ours
Told if we just work harder
We'll deserve basic necessities
Instead of recognizing
we are the masses and makers of history
There's enough for everybody
And we're getting ready to take back everything the 1% are hoarding
Why grad students like me at umiami are unionizing
Bc the university has billions they need to stop extracting and start redistributing
back to the laborers who keep the institution running
From graduate researchers to the janitors
Bc we're all exploited workers
Why the 99 needs solidarity
To stop begging for crumbs of charity from the bourgeoisie
and start organizing, unionizing, striking, boycotting and building the unity we need
So everyone can have full bellies
Studying revolutionary theory
Turning our freedom dreams to praxis
Making liberation a reality
Instead of letting capitalism kill us slowly
